COMPETITOR TEARDOWN

Your competitors have already spent the money finding out what ranks in your market. A teardown reads their results as free research: what they cover, what earns their links, and, most usefully, where they are thin.

This skill runs a structured teardown from public information: their site, their content patterns, what search surfaces for the queries you care about. It ends with the only part that matters: your three fastest wins against them.

WHAT IT DOES

  • Maps their content strategy: topics, formats, cadence, and which pages carry their visibility
  • Identifies the queries they win, the ones they are slipping on, and the ones nobody owns yet
  • Reads their positioning and finds the claims you can beat with proof
  • Outputs three specific moves, each with the reason it wins and the effort it costs

HOW TO USE IT

  2. 02 Add it to your Claude setup
  3. 03 Give it a competitor domain and your own, plus the 3-5 queries you most want to win

QUESTIONS

Do I need SEO tools for this?
No. It works from public web research. With ranking data (the AI Search engine pulls live data from DataForSEO) the teardown gets sharper, but the strategic read works without it.
How often should I run one?
Quarterly per serious competitor, or before any big content investment. Markets move; a teardown from January is a history document by June.
What is a beatable weakness?
Thin pages ranking on domain authority alone, unanswered questions in their comments and reviews, claims with no proof attached, and queries where the whole first page is generic.
